I have been reading about the organization called Water 1st International. A lot of the things that they are doing and planning to do seem very beneficial to the sick and poor people who do not have safe drinking water. After the Millenium Summit in September of 2000, many world leaders set goals for the sustainability of the environment and the Water 1st International organization believes that water is the most important aspect to reach the goals. The Millenium Summit set eight goals to be complete by 2015, they are 1. eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, 2. achieve universal primary education, 3. promote gender equality and empower women, 4. reduce child mortality, 5. improve maternal health, 6. combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, 7. ensure environmental sustainability, 8. develop a global partnership for development.
Each of these goals are the effects of unsafe water and lack of water. Water 1st International believes that the most important way to help make these goals a success is to provide safe water for everyone. They hold many projects and will continue to hold projects that help to provide the impoverished with safe drinking water. I think that they are doing the best that they can to help the poor and I plan to do whatever I can to support this organization because I believe they are setting good examples for the greedy people to follow.
I am just wondering, more specifically how they plan to achieve all of these goals? These are really great goals, and I know the answers are really hard to all of these, otherwise it would have all been fixed by now! Good blog though!!!
Thank you for the comment and question. The goals were set during the Millenium Summit of the United Nations. The Water 1st International organization uses their resources to provide safe water for the people in need. They believe that many of the goals set by the United Nations could be reached simply by providing people with their most essential resource, water. The Water 1st International organization goes into the areas that lack safe water and help the people figure out the best way to get water. They help the people with financial support and also by manual labor to install water systems for these people. Just recently the Water 1st International organization completed a water system in Ethiopia which is benefiting the people of Ethiopia greatly.
